can't imagine what this man must have endured. I realized so many things during the course of reading this book: we as a generation don't appreciate the level of freedom we now have because of the men who fought in WWII and in wars before and after primarily because of the sense of entitlement we have. I have such a profound sense of humilty and gratitude for all the men that have fought for the freedom our our great nation thanks to reading this book. I know now of the quietness that surrounded my father on many occasions that when asked about, was responded "just thinking about the days in the Navy" and it makes me wonder if he too had even more stories to tell that were left untold due to the difficulties faced with losing the many friends and acquaintances found during that time in his life. Thank you Ms. Hillenbrand for writing such a great tribute to such a great man. Thank you Louie Zamperini for your strength to tell us about your trials and tribulations and your victories over the demons that possessed many WWII veterans.
